Welcome to another post on Friendships!
In a previous post, I listed the types of friendshships that I know of. This list is not all inclusive, but are the ones that I have been a part of or have witnessed. Here is that list:
A) The ones you speak to constantly
B) The ones you have not spoken to or seen in a long time
C) The ones you wish you could rekindle
D) The ones you get to hang out with every now and then
E) The ones who have become your 'soul' mates because they are there for you through thick and thin
F) The ones you consider acquaintences
G) And the ones you've established and communicate through social networks.
I wrote about one of my Letter B friendships in this post. Now I want to discuss my Letter D friends. I have several friends in the category. We get along great. We have tons of fun whenever we're together. I don't get to see them that often and it is usually when there is some sort of function or event, which we have in common, is taking place.
This group of friends includes people from high school, college and former colleagues who I also consider friends. They are all tons of fun and we really enjoy each other. I cherish these friendships to the fullest.
So, I want to talk about my high school friends. Let me explain a little further about my high school. First, my high school (Booker T Washington, Atlanta, GA) is one of the oldest schools in the city for African Americans. My grandparents, parents and my ex-husband are all alumni of this school, so I am deeply connected to it. The school is so rich in history and because, for many years back in the day, it was one of only two high schools, that was designated for our community, tso here are a whole lot of people who are still connected to it.
To this very day, most of the alumni of BTW are still very much involved in the activities of the school. We have an Alumni Association that sponsors a lot of activites including an annual alumni picnic and homecoming activities. We also have an Alumni Band, y'all. That's right, a band, including majorettes and flag girls. You should see those 30 something and 40 something women out there doing their thing. The band peforms at the Homecoming events including the Royal Pep Rally, Parade and Halftime Show for the game.
We really enjoy hanging out together, so we're always looking for a reason to come together. We have an awesome time at the different functions, individually and collectively, throughout the year.
Here are a couple of pics:

Yep, I really cherish these friendships. Don't you just love the memories of high school and all of the memories that you continue to make? Do you still keep in touch with your high school friends? Share all of the fun details.

Great Post! I really don't know anyone who does this or really understands this. My husband insists on being an honorary member (and one of the few spouses who is accepted as such, lol) because coming from California what we have is just unheard of.
ReplyDeleteIt gives me great pride and I always get emotional when I am with my fellow Bull Dogs!! Homecoming right around the corner!!!
That's right, homecoming in about another month. We welcome your husband as an honorary member becuse he fits right in with us in terms of personality and humor.
ReplyDeleteA lot of school alumni do not have the school spirit that we have. I remember one of my friends from NYC came to the homecoming events with us and she could not believe it; the school spirit, the parade to the Georgia Dome, The large crowd filling the Dome, the Alumni Band and those GROWN women humping up that hill marching and dancing with the band. She just could not believe it and says that she's never seen anything like that in NY.
But that's how we do it at B.T.W.
