5 Steps to Creating Your Vision Board

Having a mental image of your vision is definitely necessary as it is important to visualize what it is that you desire. Just as important is being able to see a physical picture of it with your physical eyes and will do wonders for your spirit. Somehow, just seeing pictures of your vision just takes it to another level, if you know what I mean. With a vision of so many things, it can get a little cluttered in your mind, especially if its your personal, professional and any other visions all jumbled in there together. As a way of keeping you focused and to help de-clutter your mind, let me suggest that you transfer your mental pictures from your mental/spiritual eye to something that you can see with the naked eye.

The picture above is my overall vision board, which includes my personal (love & relationships, healthy eating & exercise and material wealth) as well as my professional images (inspiration, motivation, business plans for Soulful Sandstone, my ministry, etc.) It also includes Biblical Scriptures that support my vision as well as encourage me to keep the faith and stay the course when things get a little challenging. You'll also notice that I left some empty space in the lower right side of the middle section. That is because there is room to add more pics for the expansion of my vision, as it expands.

Now, that I've shared mine, I'm going to help you create yours. Here are some practical steps to bring that vision from the inside of you to something tangible on the outside of you. Creating a vision board is simple once you know what you want.

1) Have a vision for what what for your life. See it, Write it, Believe it. You have seen the vision. You’ve written the vision. You now know what you want for your life. Perfect.

Now, let’s take the next step of adding more visual to that blueprint of yours. Let’s create your vision board.

2) All you need to do now is add some pictures to what you have written. You will need the following  supplies for your board:

  • A poster board, the Tri-fold display ones are the best, but the others are acceptable as well.
  • Some glue.
  • Some markers for labeling the different areas. Or you could use stencils with construction paper. It’s totally up to you. It’s your vision board.
  • Pictures. The pictures can be personal, or they can come from books, magazines, or any source of your choosing. The idea here is to find the pictures that match your vision.
  • Any other items that you feel represent the vision that you have, such as a special kind of fabric or something that you don't mind being glued to your board.
3) Lay the board on a flat surface and decide how you want the layout that you want. For example, on my board, my personal vision is on the left side of the board, my business venture is in the middle and my ministry in on the right side.

4) Begin the process of arranging and gluing all of your items on your board according to your liking. Let your creativity flow.

5) Once the glue dries, post your board wherever you feel it will encourage, inspire and motivate you most. Create as many vision boards as you want. Yes, you can have MORE THAN ONE vision board. You have BIG dreams and BIG visions, so create a masterpiece for all of them.

You want your board to represent what you want for your life. An example would be, if you want to get married, find a picture of the dress you want. Find the pictures that represent the garments for the wedding party that you desire. Find pictures of the location and other details that you would want for your wedding. The amount of pictures can be endless.

Along with my vision board, I’ve included pictures of examples of vision boards, all courtesy of Photobucket.com.
