Sweetie Pie!

I have a friend who I met almost 10 years ago and we worked together  for several years.

I call her my "Sweetie Pie". She's younger than I am, so she kind of looks to me as her big sister.

She is one of my letter B friends because we don't talk on the phone that often and I haven't seen her in over a year, but she is still very much my friend.

Let me tell you a story. A couple of years ago, I made plans to go to the NYC to celebrate my birthday. Another girlfriend was suppose to go with me, but the week of trip, there was a change in her plans, at the last minute. So, I was prepared to take the trip alone because I had purchased my round trip ticket, purchased event ticket and hotel reservations.

On Tuesday, the week of the trip, Sweetie Pie asked me if I was ready for my birthday trip. I explained to her what happened and that I would be celebrating in the NYC alone. And do you know what she did? First , let me back up and say that my flight was leaving on Thursday morning, in two days from that day we were having this conversation. Well, here's what she did. She told me that if our Director would allow her the days off, since it was short notice, then she would go with me. So, we walked into his office and asked. Of course he said yes. He is another great friend.

Well, we jumped for joy and were estactic. We returned to her office and I gave her my flight information and she booked her flight right then. She didn't want me to have to spend my birthday alone in NYC so she went with me. And this was last minute!  We had a GREAT time. It was a wonderful experience and the first visit for both of us. I am forever grateful to her for that. Here is a pic of us on the pier in NYC

Sweetie Pie now lives in the Caribbean and had to experience the wrath of Hurricane Irene last week. I made several attempts to reach her but to no avail. Finally, two days ago, I received a text from her, because some of the phones lines are still not working. But when I received that text, it brought the biggest smile to my face. I had the feeling that she was OK and she is. The big smile was because she is dear to me and I was just so happy to hear from her.

She has been trying to get me to come for a visit. I'm planning to make that happen real soon because I miss my Sweetie Pie.

Now it's your turn to share one of your friendship stories.
