It's OK to Be Special

Let's talk about being special. Special means that something is set aside from the norm. It is better, greater and other than the usual.

Every one of us, was created 'special'. We're all uniquely designed with something that it is meant to be shared with the world. But therein lies a challenge for most people because they have no idea what that something 'special' is or if they do, they minimize their 'special' for the benefit of others.

In the book, A Return To Love, by Marianne Williamson, there is a passage that I'm sure everyone has heard many times, but I want to point out something in that passage.

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."

This passage speaks about us shining OUR LIGHT. In other words, there is something in each of us that when it shines, it identifies who we are, our very own uniqueness. Marianne is right, that light within each of us (our own individual light) is for a specific purpose; a divine purpose. You have a light, I have a light, we all have a light. And it is that light that makes us special; that light which sets us apart from the other 6.5 billion people on this earth.

And by not letting our light so shine, so that men may see it, we are subconsciously walking in a state of fear. We are also hindering the abilities of others to shine their light, because it may require the energy from your light.

So, my questions to you are:
  • What makes you special?
  • What is your 'light' that is meant to be shining, manifesting the glory of God?
  • Through shining your special light, who can you liberate or set free to shine their own light?

Now answering this may require some soul searching. As I mentioned earlier, there are a lot of women who have absolutely no idea as to what makes them special. Whenever I ask this question, the most common response that I hear are "I'm a good wife and mother" and "I am a child of God." And yes, both of those are special gifts. But that is also what makes most of us special. There is more to you than being a wife, mother and a child of God. You just need to figure out what that is.

So, you may need to grab a mirror so that you can look yourself in the eyes. You need to see beyond the outer appearance and peep into your soul. Your eyes are the window to your soul. Look within yourself and identify your light.

That thing that makes you, YOU!

That thing that is meant to let the world know that you were here.

That thing that says, "I am special and it is now time for me to shine my light."

It's okay to be special because you are special! We're all special in our own unique way!
