10 Steps to Mind Dumping

A couple of days ago, I was having a conversation with someone, when the discussion turned to "I got so much on my mind". Hmmmm! I am slightly amazed whenever I hear people say this, especially when that 'so much' is really not a list of things to that needs attention.

Here's the thing, we all have a lot on our minds, with close to 60,000 thoughts going through our mind on any give day. The key is to keeping your sanity is knowing what needs to remain and what needs to be 'dumped'.

Using my ownself as an example, I often find myself having complete conversations in my head with someone, often about something that will never take place or has already taken place....Have you ever done that?

I will also write complete blog posts, in my head, days before I actually take the time to write them down. Then, I get frustrated with myself, if I can't remember the entire blog posts.

Then there are times where I am totally submerged, in my head, in the lives of others; what they are doing, what they are saying, what they are posting....all of that. Totally letting them rent space in my already cluttered mind.

Usually when all of these things are clogging up my mind space, I am not functional at all. I mean,  how functional can I be with so much cluttering the space in my mind that can clearly be used for something else? My work gets slack, my thinking is a state of "I don't want to even wanna think about it", with the things that really need to be thought about.

How functional are you with so much clutter in your mind?

We have to make a decision to clear out of the useless mind junk that really don't need to be there. Then we can make space for the more useful, productive things that will enhance our lives in ways that we have yet to experience.

Here is an exercise that I want to you do.  It's called Mind Dumping which is basically a process that will help you to download all of the thoughts floating around in your head. You are going to remove the junk and 'dump' all of those things into another space.

Think of it in terms of a digital camera. When your picture card is full, you need to download or erase all of the pictures that are currently occupying the card space before you can take and upload any new pictures on there.

So, here is a simple strategy to download what's on your mind. This usually takes about 15-20 minutes but could be longer for some.

1. Take some paper and a pen or open a new document on your computer.

2. Find a quiet space for you to sit and think.

3. Begin to write or type EVERY thought that come to mind.

4. Do NOT censor or edit. Just write whatever comes to mind. No particual order is necessary.

5. Continue to write or type until you feel that you have exhausted all thoughts for now.

6. Now review what you have written.

7. Make a note of those things that require further attention.

8. When you complete your review and notation, shred the papers or erase or delete the document from your computer.

9. For best results, repeat this process on a weekly basis, preferably at the beginning of the week for a more productive week.

10. Share your experience with others and encourage them to do the same.

How do you feel? Does your mind somehow feel lighter? I know mine sure does.
